So I am newer out of the church and I am listening fully to my first Mormon Podcast (not cause I was upset it was being created but I just struggle to sit a listen for that length of time) But I have so many questions. This will be a lot but if anyone has anything relating to my questions please please share. And this may be some basic stuff, but I left the church not for doctrine reasons but for personal ones. And I just never went digging cause I turned my back and didn't care, but recently have been super curious. Anyways, enough rambling. Also if there is any way you would prefer me to break this down, edit it, or format it for easier viewing please let me know. I'm a new poster to Reddit and still don't fully get the rules.
Questions:
Book of Mormon:
There were removed footnotes from the BoM?
The three witnesses DIDN'T HANDLE THE PLATES??? WHAT???? That was like the last part of my slight testimony. Like I believed in aspects of the church but not leadership. But like pick and choose aspects I believed, but wow this is it for me if this is true. Wait, wait, wait, I just heard now they say the plates WITH THEIR SPIRITUAL EYES??? No, no, no, no.
Leadership:
Nepotism? From what I've heard so far that is just a whole can of worms. But Nepotism in leadership?
I heard rumors but never found anything while in the church, but is it true there was an apostle of the 12 that was excommunicated?
Also in addition to the last question, is it true there was a swearing apostle, if so why was he kept around and allowed to speak? (Or was he?)
Hinckley denied that god was once a man and man can become a god? Because that quote was used A LOT in my seminary class.
Apostles are forbidden from keeping journals? Why?
The Church as a Whole:
The church was in debt at one point? I was always told growing up that the church was never in debt because of how well they maintained their finances.
What does a baseball, or cheeseburger, etc. baptism mean?
And fraudulent baptisms? What does that mean as well?
Also, the church plays politics? How? I didn't think they really were big enough to so on a large scale.
Misc:
Joseph Smith said they had touched down in Chile? What? That was my first time ever hearing that.
Mormons, sorry Members of the Church of, jesus I'm not writing that out, believe in the 7,000 year Earth theory? Also, my first time hearing that.
The church lowkey trafficked women? Like converted them then moved them to Utah and then had them marry into polygamy? Please tell me no. (Of course only if it's the truth)
And I'm sure so many more questions are going to pop up because I am not diving deep down this rabbit hole... Thanks in advance for all the help from everyone!
