A thought on why “The Church doesn’t apologize” is just cowardice.
I’ve been taking with believing family lately about how the church needs to straight up repent of both racism and the blood on its hands with LGBTQ people.
Here’s the thing though: how many sections of the Doctrine and Covenants are the Lord chewing out Joseph and or the Church? I mean, how common was it during the early days and in Kirtland for “I the Lord rebuke my servant Joseph Smith Junior” and then lay out a change of plan or a redirection.
Now even if you believe Joseph wasn’t a prophet, the reality of this is a “prophet” allowed a divine rebuke to be published and disseminated publicly. Even then, a prophet can simply declare a change in direction, I mean what do you think the Revelation on Priesthood was?
So, why not “thus sayeth the Lord, we were wrong?”
In an organization that believes in “continuing revelation,” as well as growing “line upon line,” or “we believe in all that will be revealed,” why exactly can’t they make a simple apology for past hurt? Why can’t they change?
The reason I left the church is the conclusion I came to is, if there is continuous revelation and or modern prophets, these dudes just aren’t listening, or the church is in some sort of apostasy. Or the men themselves are just that bigoted themselves. I mean, all the above really.
Any other thoughts?
