I've been joking with my friends lately about how and why I'm going to hell (and I am, lol), but it struck me tonight; Why is it only apostate mormons such as myself are going to hell or outer darkness (oooh scary) and not all genuinely bad people like, say, Hitler...? If you don't mind, I'm gonna share my general childhood experience of being raised in the church.

As a kid younger than 7, I generally didnt like church because it was strange, smelled bad, and was full of strange people constantly telling me how they know my parents and how they've known me since I was this tall and how much they love me. All I wanted was to be left alone to color or be with my parents, or even better play outside with my non mormon friends. So I would sneak out of sunday school and go to the cultural hall or find my parents and stay with them in relief society / priesthood meetings.

After my 8th birthday, everything went to shit. My "rebellious" antics, and protesting were no longer tolerated as I was responsible for my actions and that I had to start taking my spiritual well being seriously. Things quickly broke down into weekly arguments, shouting, fights, and physical abuse. Why? Because my father felt he was responsible for my spiritual well being... wait what? Really, but, I'm baptized its my spirit, my choices? By my teens, my father felt that there would be repercussions for both him and myself in the afterlife if i didn't get my spiritual shit together.

Long story short, years later, it now dawns on me, the answer to my question. TSCC uses the families are forever doctrine to as one part of a larger sales tactic to lure converts in (like both my parents) and then threatens to tear their families apart in the afterlife if they don't give every last fiber of their being to LD$ corporation.

Tl;Dr The TSCC only threatens apostates with outer darkness in order to control TBM families to indoctrinate their children or be forced to lose them for all eternity after death.
