Between the recent new trans policy and the soon to be excommunication of Nemo the Mormon (may he find jammy dodgers in outer darkness) there has been a lot of talk about Oaks taking over behind the scenes. I had a small experience with the man I thought I would share. I had the privilege of having Oaks visit my small Montana stake. During the visit we had a small priesthood meeting of about 30 men for a Q&A which quickly turned into a contentious debate. I don’t know how they allowed it to happen but it felt like a trap for Oaks because I’m pretty sure the majority of the men were definitely not temple recommend holding pro Mormon fellers. Pretty typical questions for the time such as women and priesthood, mother in heaven, have you seen God (the answer is no by the way just the still small voice). He gave pretty non-memorable and noncommittal apologetic answers to the “anti” questions but what I remember the most were 2 things. Number one was the smug smirk on his face anytime he thought he had won against the questioners. He was a lawyer and still is. He likes to fight dirty and will do and say anything to win. The second thing I remember most was the burning seething hatred behind his eyes when the debate did not go his way. You can see it sometimes in the videos about him when his fake smile slips and his eyes go cold. At the time my dumb believing mind chalked it up to the wrath/power of God but now I see it clearly. This is a man that has a deep resentment and hatred for anyone who dares to oppose him. Buckle your seatbelts because you can bet that this guy is going to double down and it’s not gonna be pretty.
