I recently got into a relationship and we have been together now for about 3 months. He is a devout Christian and has been since he (m22) was 15, I (f23) grew up in the Mormon church and my family was not active by the time I was in middle school or high school. But I have still claimed the lds church as my own. In light of my new relationship my bf expressed concerns and doubts about the legitimacy of the church, I understood and I realized I had been having the same questions myself.
I realized that I never felt comfortable bringing them up to church people for fear they would tell my mom. And I was the kind of kid that did not, and tried not, to cause any sort of trouble, because of what my older siblings had done in the past. So I kept quiet and learned about the Bible in school. I went to a nondenominational Christian school so I was able to still learn about God even though we didn't go to church. And I am forever grateful for that since it has been a blessing to me.
But about my questions - I realized I had the same questions about the foundation of the church and I couldn't answer any of the questions he gave me. It made me feel so overwhelmed because I truly love my bf, and I do see a potential future with him. But until we are.both able to come to a common ground on this and on our questions then I don't know if a future together is possible given his strong convictions and argument against the lds church.
I am still hesitant and reluctant to tell anybody about my doubts and questions. I still fear that I would disappoint my mom. But I don't know who to talk to or about what or where to start. Most of my questions revolve around the foundation of the church and Joseph's finding of the plates and the history of him being a leader of this church. I also have questions about heaven and the trinity and how lds might see it differently then a Christian.
I do see myself as a Christian ‐ but the more I learn about the lds church I am unsure about whether I am a Mormon. So of anybody does have some resources or an ex missionary I can talk to or somthing. I truly domt know what to do.
