witchcraft, bibliomancy, how the BoM was translated, discernment, intuition etc, i've noticed a trend for a while now, but figured i'd post after hearing about the story of Moses leading the people to the "promised land" by following a pillar of smoke by day and fire by night and how it compares to modern stories of people following the same thing but it being a demon trying to lure people into harm? other examples i've picked up on:

bibliomancy, which is being led by a higher spiritual force of some sort, regardless of bad or good since it can be both, to open a book randomly and read a random section... sound familiar to anyone here? i know when i did scripture studies of mine, i did this ALL the time. is there another name this goes by in the church that isn't "bibliomancy"?

automated writing, which again, is being led by a higher spiritual force, again, doesn't matter if bad or good, and allowing yourself to write down on paper what you are being guided to write... another familiar concept? former prophets have done this before, men and women all over biblical times were mentioned to have done this, but from what i understand is that it's not called "automated writing", but just "revelation", or a method of it (i've never heard any mention of names for it in church, just that it's not okay unless you're the prophet lol).

prophets of the past locating a water source by being guided by "the spirit", animal sacrifices from older times, even prayer and meditation for that matter. how often has anyone heard mention of meditation, or another word "pondering"? i was told by local leaders and former friends that meditation is more "taboo" in the church, but you sure can find an article from the Liahona/Mormon Times/Deseret News websites talking about Gordon B. Hinkley saying that we "don't meditate enough", which i find pretty odd for a narrative like that.

again, these are all different examples of things that have been called "witchcraft", or "taboo", or just "not acceptable in church" in general, and it doesn't make any sense to me...
