For as long as I can remember my dad reads the nativity story before we open any gifts on Xmas morning. I hosted my extended family on Xmas morning and for the first time ever, he didn't read it. My parents had obviously decided that before they came because it was definitely intentional.
All of us kids and our spouses and even some of the grandkids side eyed each other when they jumped right into handing gifts out. This was my third Xmas since I started deconstructing and I had been bracing myself for the inevitable trigger listening to him read it and having it not happen was fucking lovely.
I feel sad for them because I know they feel like they've failed. They're terrified for our souls. They feel rejected by me because their religion is so much a part of who they are. It truly holds them captive.
Evangelical Christianity is the biggest narcissist gaslight there ever was... everything it claims that the world does to Christians is actually just a projection of what Christianity does to the world.
Anyway, somewhat a rant lol but mainly just a celebration of not having to sit through that yesterday!!! ❤❤
