My mom and dad were freaking out over a gay couple in the mall
Post Body

My dad (my pastor) and my mom were at the mall with me a couple weekends back, mind you I live in California not too far from LA so it’s not uncommon to see gay couples here and there. Anyways, they started freaking out after a lesbian couple who were holding hands walked by us and my dad said it’s evil spirit influencing them while my mom made a face like she was cringing.

Personally, I know I’m straight so I would never date another guy. But if someone want to date the same gender that’s totally up to them and I don’t have an issue with it, I’ve had classmates in college who are part of the LGBTQ community and I got along great with them. If anything, this has more to do with the fear mongering that my dad constantly pumps out over the pulpit about the end times and how drag queens try to “groom” children. Gays only make less than one percent of the country yet my parents (my dad more-so than my mom) act like they’re everywhere.

Yet when a big name Pentecostal church (FAC Maryville) got in trouble for covering up a SA case at their school, my parents went on the defense and said to me that the allegations were “just trying to bring the church down” or how I should “stop being judgemental”. It’s extremely hypocritical and until they change their attitude towards people who are from different backgrounds, no one is going to step within 10 blocks of their church (they still don’t have any consistent members after starting it almost ten years ago)
