So I thought I’d just copy and paste something I was sent, and I genuinely realise how stupid some of these messages were. In this case I’ll give you all context, my mother sends me only the sermons she thinks relate to something I “struggle” with. We are a family of big beautiful people as I see it, genetics popped off in that case, and so understand this message is particularly fatphobic for her to send. Anyways, I say all this to say, if I was still in the fog of the religion it would’ve sent me down a eating disorder depression, which is sad, but Christianity runs off guilt and any and every nonsensical thing that secular culture talks about as “bad”. So here goes:

THE GLUTTONY
Proverbs 23:21 [KJV]
For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
Gluttony is a sin. It has several consequences, one of which is stated in our theme scripture. If you are gluttonous, you will attract the spirit of poverty.
Some people assume that gluttony is only in the amount of food one eats, that is, eating too much or stuffing your belly until your stomach complains about the excess.
Sometimes, and I must emphasise that it is not all the time, one of the other signs of gluttony, besides overeating, is in waking up in the wee hours of the night to eat.
You may know someone who, even having eaten through the day, including having lunch and dinner, will still stumble out of bed at 3am in the morning to fry eggs, toast bread or eat what was left over from their evening meal because they can't help it.
What is that force that can drive you out of sleep in the middle of the night to eat simply for the sake of eating?
While not all people who wake up in the night to eat are gluttonous, you must check yourself if you find yourself at the mercy of this habit with no amount of self-control.
Proverbs 25:28 [KJV]
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
If you struggle with this weakness, do not assume it is a harmless habit of nocturnal grazing, you may need to ask the Lord to help you.
Tame your appetite. Never allow your flesh to speak so loudly that you must look for food in the dead of night even when your stomach is not empty.
Halleluyah!
GOLDEN NUGGET:
Sometimes (not all times), one of the signs of gluttony, besides overeating, is in waking up in the wee hours of the night to eat. Tame your appetite. Never allow your flesh to speak so loudly that you must look for food in the dead of night even when your stomach is not empty.
PRAYER:
Father, I thank You for this truth. Thank You because the Spirit in me is a Spirit of self-control. My flesh is tamed in all ways. I have mastery over what I eat and when I eat. This discipline sets me apart and positions me for the great things You want to do in me and through me, in the name of Yahusha Ha'Mashiach.”
I obviously don’t know if I’m the only one who finds this hilariously ridiculous, but here it is. Just one of many stupid things that pastors say to make people feel bad about their lives.
