Total Excel Newb asking question about making spreadsheet for Hotwheels cars winners.

I have 10 races with cars defined as dropdown. what i cant figure out is how to make it so when i select a car as a drop down it adds a point value to the car based on the place. then totals that up on the cars list by most points
