Feeding excel tables into a macro and fill template

Post Body

I'm a programmer but new to excel and working a job handling lots of data. Basically I receive excel tables for lists of products, containing the info I need to input into a template which I then feed to the database for information import.

I'd like to make a macro or program that would analyze the incoming tables, look for correct fields using this or that condition (the incoming files from different vendors all have different formats/field names so I need to code in comprehensive analysis) and output the correct info into the corresponding column of the template, row by row.

Where should I start? Can Macros do this? Is there a name for what I'm trying to do?
