Index Lookup not allowing a reference spreadsheet on a network?

Hello all,

I am trying to set up an Index Match function, where the 2 criteria values are on the local sheet, but it is looking for data on an excel sheet in the network. However, when i hit enter, a window pops up asking me to find a local copy of the reference excel sheet. Is this a setting, or a limitation of index lookup? Or am I doing something wrong? The code I have (with the sheet name substituted) is as follows:

=INDEX ('Sheetname'!$1:$1048576, MATCH(E22, 'Sheetname'!$I:$I, 0)*MATCH(I22, 'Sheetname'!$J:$J,0),20)

Any help is appreciated.
