Conditionally color a cell based on an index match lookup in a separate table

Post Body

Hey all,

I'm trying to conditionally highlight a cell (green, yellow, red etc) based on the result of a lookup formula. But for some reason I either get excel saying there's something wrong with the formula, or nothing happens when I paste my formula into the conditional formatting window.

Basically I have a list of names, and a table elsewhere that has an "active status" in the 8th column. Id live my list of names to color each cell based on their active status (Y or N). For the life of me I can't remember how to do this and youtube isnt helping much since its all numerical comparison stuff.

I have:

=INDEX(Clients,MATCH(E7,Clients[First Name],0),8)="N"

which yields the Y or N from within my table and compares it to "N", but doesnt seem to do anything when I paste it into the conditional formatting box. It says it will format if the formula is true, but something is wrong.

What am I doing wrong here? Much appreciation for yall!
