I’m specifically looking for inexpensive drive-ins, mom and pops, cafe/diners with a bit of local history. I’m new to the area (north Everett near Providence hospital) but I don’t mind a bit of a drive for good food.
I’m currently a big fan of Ray’s Drive In and Oishi Teriyaki. I’ve also been to Mikie’s a couple of times and enjoyed it but Ray’s is better and less expensive, in my opinion.
And hey, what’s up with all of the teriyaki joints? Before moving here, I lived in 5 other states in the past 15 years and have never seen a single ‘teriyaki’ restaurant anywhere else. Some even sell burgers and fish and chips?? I find it charming but a bit confusing, lol.
Oishi is the bomb! Generous portions, big menu, reasonable prices and friendly service. Honestly, I’ve never had bad service at any restaurant in the 3 months I’ve lived here. In fact, all retail and service employees have been extremely friendly and helpful. What’s up with that? I guarantee that it’s not like that in the other parts of the country. You locals are lucky!
How about pizza? I haven’t noticed many pizza places. I prefer a good NY slice or a regional style, if there’s such a thing. Does pub-style pizza (cheese covers toppings) exist here? I’m not a fan of trendy pizza places though.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!
