Is there a megathread where we should ask questions about the ending of rebuild, or we can just ask here?
Just watched 3.0 1.0 yesterday. and while I understood the general lines of what happened, some threads were lost on me:
- It seems that the time loop theory is confirmed. However, the very end of the movie, with the 'real-world' Shinji, Mari, Rei, etc, is a new world in which the loop was broken?
- In the end of the movie, Shinji takes the pilot seat in the Instrumentality, but decides to rebuild the world into an eva-less world. To do so, he needs to sacrifice himself by impaling the new spear (the reason why???). It seems to be implied that by doing so, he will remain alone, ie, the next time line will kick in (or at least, that's what I apprehended). So he is not breaking the loop, just sending this iteration into a good ending, and going on to the next? But if so, then why was he expecting Mari to pick him up?
- However, then he realizes his mother is inside Unit 1, and she takes over for him and lets him go. So the fact the Yui performs the rebuilding with Gendo the new fact that breaks the loop and lets everyone have a final, definite new life? If this not the case, that is, if Shinji impaling himself would have broken the loop anyways, why is Yui intervening relevant? Is she doing this so Shinji can actually go into the new world?
- What is the deal with Mari and Fuyutsuki? Fuyutsuki says that "[he] has given her what she requested". What is he talking about?
