So I rewatched the series on Netflix when it came out (I don't think the English voices are that bad, really, but I speak Japanese so I left it on the original audio).
It actually holds up pretty well. It does more with less, which is something lost on a lot of anime nowadays. Maybe because I know the lore a lot of things make a lot more sense. The series sags a bit in the middle, though, which isn't really all that uncommon in anime. And the Jet Alone episode is dumb. Nerv didn't need to sabotage it when they knew it would have been completely useless.
One question, how do the rebuilds deal with the "mother's soul in the robots" thing for any of the robots after Unit 1? Is that mostly dropped with all of the new mechs and "eva stuff" like those weird robots at the beginning of 3.0?
