First of all, I am strongly against the invasion of Ukraine and sympathise with the Ukrainian people. I am very pro-West and sympathise with anyone involved in conflict. (and I will not be talking about any other conflict for now)
With regards to Eurovision, it's bittersweet. I get that Russia has been expelled by the EBU for breaching its rules and understand why they were kicked out in 2022 (even though I've had polarising views on it - I want to separate politics from the music).
But at the same time, I still have fond memories of watching Russian performances since I've started watching in 2012 - they always brought something good to the table and made the contest more interesting imo. I enjoyed their songs and performances almost every year and actually miss them being in the contest, they were a real competitor most years (except 2018).
Even whenever I watch sports/Olympics/tennis, I always separate the athlete from the country they represent. I do the same with music too
Personally, I’m glad they’re not participating, if they were there right now it would detract from the overall enjoyment of Eurovision for me.
