I think it’s an extension of the general themes surrounding youth. Not only is it about young high schoolers,everyone’s childhood gets explored, and the youngest people in the show have some of the most memorable scenes (Like Ash). Beyond that, they push out toward older directions (like Cal or Fez’s grandma) and toward younger directions (like pregnancy). When you factor in the other major theme in the show (sex), scenes with characters reacting to pregnancy seem coherent.
