Hi all,
I recently started a multiplayer match with a couple friends where I chose the Seneca tribe that forms part of the Iroquois federation. The issue I'm running into is that the leader (Onondaga) has consistently had the most strength among the federation members, despite both myself and the Mohawk tribes having larger militaries and in my case, far more territory, while Onondaga sits there as an OPM. I assume this is due to some bonus for being the leader of a federation, although I don't see that specified in any tooltips or anything I've tried looking at. If not, I have no idea how the game is calculating relative strength.
Regardless, I only recently surpassed Onondaga in strength within the federation, while 5 reforms have been enacted. The federal cohesion is now decreasing at a rate of -0.05 per month, and in order to have a potential leader change, I need to get it to drop to 0. Problem is, it's at 90 federal cohesion so it will take basically forever.
I don't see any sort of mechanism to take over as leader of the federation, and I've already eaten one if the members (Cayuga), with plans to annex the Onondaga, but I don't know if that will just cause the federation to become defunct, as I had seen someone ask about in another post about a year ago. So I'm basically stuck having to wait to form Iroquois because I'm not leader, and the only way I can see it happening is by letting the federal cohesion tick down to 0, which will take about 150 years in game to accomplish.
So, my questions are:
Can you take over as leader of a tribal confederation through any other means besides the federal cohesion mechanic? Will a conquest of the current leader work?
If I were to leave the federation, would I still be able to form the Iroquois nation in this game?
I'd definitely appreciate anyone's knowledge on this! I'm a fairly casual player these days so haven't kept up too much with the latest dlc and patches.
