England 1.22 Strategy?

Hola,

I'll be starting my first Ironman game as England. I feel like there are 2 main strategies as England.

1) Pull out of Europe and focus on naval, trade, colonization, and forming GB. Any sort of expansion in Europe is based on PU. Not too hard.

2) Try to subdue France. Either take land from them, release nations and/or put them in a PU.

I played a bit of the second strategy in a non-Ironman game. Allied Portugal, Castile, Scotland, Brittany, Savoy, and Austria. Sold a province to Navarra which caused France to declare war on them. This dragged in Castile and Portugal on one side and Aragon and Naples joining France. During this war, The Surrender of Maine popped up. I decided to keep Maine but France backed off since they were already in a long war. Instead, I got a mission to force PU over France. After that war was over and the truce between France and my allies finished, I declared war on them. Castile, Portugal, and Austria joined in. I forced PU France but Burgundy formed a coalition with HRE members and started a coalition war. All of my allies joined in. White peace out of that. France stayed at 100% LD for a very long time.

Some general England questions:

  • Is there an event similar to the Iberian Wedding for England and Scotland, and GB and Hanover? I can't seem to find one. Is the only way to form a PU with Scotland through the force PU CB, or if they aren't rivaled to me, waiting for their king to die?

If I decide to go the European conquest route, these are my questions:

  • Should I try breaking up France first before trying to force a PU on them in a second war?

  • Should I try to inherit Burgundy? I can get 3 electors on my side, maybe 4. If I'm the emperor and have an RM with Burgundy, I think I have an 80-85% chance of inheriting.
