Am I doing something wrong, or are AI allies just this useless?

I don't know if this is supposed to happen in the new update. I have over 1k hours and never seen such bullshit. Doing a standard Aragon run, have Naples, Castile, Provence, and Portugal as PU's, (all loyal), Byzantium vassal, and allied Venice and Austria. Everyone joins a war of reconquest using Byzantium's CB against Otto, 120k vs 40k (Otto had Aq Q and some other OPM). Next thing I know, my allies and vassals are all lining up in stacks of 6-7k to get eaten in quick succession by the 25k Ottoman. It actually looked like it was done on purpose. Other than a 15k Venetian army sieging Sevastopol (thanks!) I received absolutely no help, and got destroyed.

Is this supposed to happen???? Is the AI supposed to be this retarded? Because they just seem way better offensively. I don't understand how difficult it is for the big allies to siege forts in groups, and the small vassals to stick to my armies. I've instructed thus in the subject tab. What am I doing wrong?
