Best place to work online in EU

I have a German passport, but I've never been to Germany, and I don't speak German. I was thinking I could buy a cheap place in the EU and work online. What's a good place for me to do this?
The factors I'm considering are cost of living, paperwork, and taxes. For example, Poland might be cheap, but maybe the paperwork is too onerous, so maybe Germany would be better. Then again, I hear Germany has high taxes.
