What is the origin of "Hog Line" in lawn bowling and curling

Post Body

I started lawn bowling this year, it is much more interesting and fun than I imagined. In lawn bowling their is a "hog line" where you must throw the Jack (the ball you aim at) past. The hog line is marked with a white stake with a hog on it.

I understand in curling their is also a hog line that you must throw the stones past and a stone that does not pass the line is called a "hogged stone"

The only mention I could find to the Origin of this term is a little blurb in the article below, but I don't feel like it answers the full question. It relates to a term about culling a weak lamb, what does that have to do with hogs? Can someone add more info?
