Why is there "man" on "woman" and "male" on "female"?

title says it all.

i was just curious to why that happen, why maybe the "wo" or "fe" would be used in front to represent women and etc

Comments

man originally meant human, wif meant female and wifman meant female human. man got narrowed to mean male human, and wifman became woman.

female and male are unrelated, coming from latin masculus and femella which became masle and femelle in french. i THINK we know that english "male" did influence the spelling, people making the connection and assuming there was a relationship.
