How bad are the hours seriously?
Post Body

Hey everyone, I am a current college student and I made a post in here previously regarding me wanting to make a transition into the construction field as it is something I enjoy. One of the jobs that have always taken and interest in was estimating so I’ve recently been trying to apply to a bunch of entry level estimating jobs and trying to get in the field( any tips on this are appreciated ) but how bad are the hours seriously? I strayed away from trying to be a pm or anything of that sort because of the extreme hours however recently I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz that even the estimators are extremely busy as well. I understand that construction is and extremely in demand field and during weeks where your finish up bids you may need to work some pretty extensive hours, but is this consistent? I appreciate having extra hours now, I enjoy being able to make a bunch of overtime and stack checks but I’m 20 years old and I worry that when I’m 30 and am starting a family I may not have this same mindset and may want my consistent weekly hours to at least be under 50. How do you guys balance this for the ones who are working ridiculous hours consistently?

I work for a large GC. Schedule fluxes but I can work from home for some so I really enjoy my schedule. Just changed career fields and love it. I found a large GC in town that just happened to be hiring a junior estimator. Knock on some doors and meet some people, tell them what you want to do. Estimators are hard to find around northern Ohio where I am.
