Structural Steel help?

I'm a project management intern in a gc. Was just tasked to do some takeoffs for structural steel by the tonnage. How do I go about this? I've only been doing more basic takeoffs like wall types, MEPs, landscaping etc. Your typical area, linear, and count types. Never did by weight.
Edit: thanks to everyone!! My takeoffs and estimate was pretty close to the bids we've got so far! Takeoff quantities were a bit lower but am guessing that's cuz waste is not included in mine! Thanks again!!
