Why do so many major events/leagues avoid Chicago and the Midwestern United States?

Post Body

Over the last few years I’ve started to grow a resentment towards a lot of different leagues for their seeming refusal to host some of the major NA esports events in Chicago or elsewhere in the Midwest, instead choosing the east/west coasts states or Texas instead. I know we hosted two CSGO majors around 2018/19 and the 2022 LCS Finals were held at the United Center, but I’m not invested in those leagues and outside of those two events, nothing else has been held here or within the Midwest as a whole. HCS has never hosted an event here, the Call of Duty League completely abandoned their local fanbase after Optic Chicago merged with the Dallas Empire, and the Overwatch League put more emphasis on Chinese expansion teams in 2019 instead of a Midwest team. You’d think that the third largest city in the U.S. would be a go-to location/hub for esports akin to Dallas and LA, but we aren’t. Is there any particular reason why and should I have hope for this trend to change or not?

Comments

If you're going to host in the Midwest you may as well host in Indy since it is better built for it.
