I'm so...irritated. I built a project on my bench, 12V from a wall supply powering some solenoids and fans, and an l7805 to power my esp32 devkit c style board.
All was well on my bench after the first test and check.
Moved project to it's Home, fired it up, it worked!!!
Then, I simply moved the project over a few inches for neatness, and the Dev board went dark. Disconnected the 5V supply and powered by USB, nothing...not enough voltage coming out of the AMS1117.
I was so careful, and the only thing I can think that went wrong was perhaps a bad solder joint on the 5V or the GND pin which sparked which fried the usb chip which fried the LDO.
I know that anyone that experiments is going to Smoke something sooner or later, and probably more than once. I just took such pains to make sure everything was OK and feeling a bit sheepish and defeated.
