I've been dating my girlfriend for a couple of years, and we're both deliriously happy. Well, we were, anyway.
It was the first serious relationship for both of us, and we were a perfect match. We have the same dorky sense of humor, the same hobbies, the same shy awkwardness when it comes to meeting other people. After a few clumsy dates, we both realized how well we got along together, and made it official.
That was a few years ago, and we've both come a long way. We're both becoming more confident and sociable, we've learned how to make friends and impress people, even started going out to bars and parties. Everything was perfect.
Except....
Well, sometimes a guy wonders what he's been missing. Especially when a cute girl seems to be flirting with me at a party, or when a distant friend asks if I'm single. Of course I still love my girlfriend, but you can't blame a guy for looking.
Finally, I worked up the courage to tell her what I had in mind. There were a lot of painful questions, and a few tears, but eventually she agreed to try an open relationship. We'd both stay in love together, but I was finally free to date other people.
I thought that was all I wanted, until I got a text from my girlfriend:
"Can you stay out a bit later tonight? I'm having some company over...."
