Life in the suburbs was exactly what you would expect. Kids in school during the week, and soccer all weekend. There was hardly time for anything else. Like everyone trapped inside of the wall-less prison we wanted out. Not out forever - just out for a night every now and again.
Then we found out about a key party. Some said it was an urban legend from the 1970's, but it was actually happening pretty close to our neighborhood! From the outside it was just a normal cocktail party. Just a bunch of suburban husbands and wives dressed up and chatting away over cocktails. The one big difference was the large bowl full of keys that was by the front door. Every wife was supposed to pick a set of keys out of the bowl and spend the evening trying to find who the keys belonged to. As the party drew to a close, the new couples paired off and left together. The rule was to have your partner home by the next morning ready to pick up the kids from their overnights. But what happened between the time you left and the drop off was completely open.
