Invisibilia Servus Congregandum was the title of the spell in an old and dusty tome entitled The Book of Magical Charms. It was my latest pet project, transcribing old and esoteric books in the downtown library and uploading them onto a public database. Of course, I wasn't foolish enough to bring a priceless manuscript with me to the park on my lunch break, that would be an incredibly stupid thing to do. No, I had taken about two dozen photos of the handful of pages I was working on with my phone. From those photos, I'd type up the translations on my laptop.
I found a shady spot under an elm tree and laid down a blanket, my lunch bag, and of course my laptop. This particular book had me eager to translate. It was old and bizarre, like something out of a Lovecraft book filled with strange symbols and runes. The writings were mostly in Latin with a little French, but I could read most of it.
"On mid-day, under elm or oak, with sword and blood," I began to read allowed as I translated, "recite these words to summon forth the invisible and unknown to you. Eliru, nevidebla unu. Eliru nevide-" I paused, scratching my head and trying to work out what the words meant. For a moment, I was distracted as a cold wind blew across the park sending a chill down my spine on an otherwise warm day. It was odd, but I ignored it, turning my attention back to translation. "Must be either some made up mumbo-jumbo or some language I'm not familiar with. Maybe middle eastern?" I made a note off to the side of my translation and began to read again.
"Eliru, nevidebla tiu. Mi nomas vin, kaj preni vin." As I finished reading the words allowed, things began to get very weird. My laptop suddenly went dark and I could not get it to turn back on. I swore I had charged it before leaving the office, but assumed the battery had died. "So much for a working lunch." I muttered, turning my attention to the bagged meal I had brought. Reaching in, I pulled out the bacon and egg salad, then the dressing, and lastly my silverware. As I grabbed the knife, a searing hot pain shot up my arm causing me to drop the dull blade to the blanket with a yelp. The butter knife, was glowing! Then I heard it, a voice that changed everything. "Hello there mortal, I believe you summoned me... Are you to be my new master? Or perhaps I will make you my minion..." to my surprise, a sultry woman appeared from inside the elm tree. She had the sort of proportions you'd only read about in fantasy and as she smiled down, I felt light headed as the blood rushed downward."H-h... hi." I managed to say before things got a little hazy.
