How do I write historical erotica, without making it lame
Post Body

So I had an idea that's been really lighting my brain up for a sapphic erotica/romance story. Basically being told by three generations of women in the same family line in the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods in England.

It seemed like a fun idea, and one that I was curious to do the research for (my knowledge of English history really takes a dive after the protestant reformation) but I realized, I have never written historical fiction before.

I'm worried that I could either get bogged down in the mire or historical fact, or skim the surface so much that it strikes the character of using such a setting away. I also would rather not get too deep into some of the less savory aspects of the era, since they're not necessarily pertinent to the story.

(Views on homosexual relationships, and how people got around them back on the day are most certainly a topic that will come up, but the forms of racism of the day might be a bit less pertinent and turn off potential readers a bit more.)

I'm just hoping someone has some experience here, and can provide a little bit of insight into how you made it work. I know historical smut can work. I've seen it be done, I just haven't done it myself.
