So I ordered an Ergodox-EZ and am now waiting for it to arrive. I am planning on modding it to give it the sound and feel that I am looking for.
I will open it up and put sound dampening foam inside, bought switches that I know I like the sound of, and will lube and film them as well. But there are two things that are concerning to me.
One is the plastic case. Is it a high quality, thick plastic? My worst fear is that no matter what modding is done to it the plastic case will cause it to have a really cheap sound.
The other concern I have is the keycaps. I went with the blank sculpted keycaps which according to their website are in the DCS profile. From what I read online DCS keycaps tend to be thinner and cheaper sounding than other keycap formfactors. For people who have the blank sculpted caps, are they high quality? Thick?
TL;DR, has anyone been able to mod their Ergo to sound satisfying to the ear, like a normal enthusiast mech keyboard? If so, what were the steps that you took?
