New Kobo eReaders this year? Or other alternatives in the $200 - $250 range?

Post Body

I'm considering a new eReader and torn between the Kindle Paperwhite Signature, the Kobo Libra 2, and the Kobo Sage. However, all of them have major caveats to my mind and are putting me off since I already have a Paperwhite 4 and a Boox Nova 2, and I don't need a new eReader, just kinda want one, still looking for the "perfect for me" device.

  • Paperwhite Sig - well, it's Amazon. I don't love that. I use Amazon, do buy books there, Kindle was my first eReader. but I hate how ad-driven the UI is, even without ads (I've always paid to remove them, but recent UI still feels like they're always trying to sell you and integrate their serviceS). Also, their collections suck. And I manage all my books with Calibre, no need for direct downloads, and going online with it breaks sideloaded covers anyway. Hardware is very nice though.

  • Libra 2 - slow old CPU, looks sluggish from what I've seen from reviews. I'm also really not sold on the form factor with the button handle. I prefer a flat, flush form factor like with Kindles, tablets, other eReaders.

  • Sage - Honestly looks pretty great, but I've heard nothing but bad about the battery life, and looking at the specs, I don't think it's something that would be fixed with firmware/software updates. Also, the display quality/crispness seems less than the Libra 2 and the Paperwhite.

  • Kobo cases - Not at all a fan of the material or trifold design, and limited 3rd party cases. Amazon device has more options there for sure.

Suffice to say, I don't find any of these ideal. I've always wanted a Kobo for their reading stats. I like stat tracking. Anyone know if there might be a new Kobo device this year akin to a larger version of the Clara HD form factor? Or any recommendations from other brands like Pocketbook? I'd like a simple, dedicated reader in 7" - 8" range with EPUB support and preferably no post-sales stuff in the UI. No Android based devices, after using my Boox Nova 2 for nearly two years, I've had my fill of it.
