Starting this discussion because I'm curious to know what those of you who know more about this segment of the consumer electronics market think.
I recently came across the Huawei MatePad Pro - I wish I knew this existed before I mistakenly bought my iPad for reading, thinking I would be immune to eyestrain - which got me wondering: how likely is it that big tech players like Apple would get into the e-reader market, either by manufacturing their own devices or by teaming up with device manufacturers? Apple for e.g. has a great Books app (imo) with metrics and so forth but I don't think there's a way to use that app on an e-reader... imagine Apple teaming up with for e.g. Kobo to allow you to sync your books using the Books app, for example. I'm curious to know people's thoughts about why this hasn't happened - is the e-reader market just too small for tech giants to be interested in?
