I've been reading on my ipad for years, problems are (1) at night even with all the true tone / warm lights etc etc I still feel it sores my eyes even during the day and (2)reading outside with an ipad it's not really great. So, coming from a world where I never held a e-reader before or even saw one up close, I got borrowed a Kindle basic. Oh boy, I'm never going back to the ipad for ePub reading.
These are my reading habits:
average of 2 hours per day
of that time, 33% is at home during the day, 33% at home during the night (lights on), 33% is outdoors
I only read B&W (no comics, etc)
I travel a lot alone, so that's also a plus
In an ideal world I would have a small one (6") and a big one (>= 7"), but I only have budget for one up to 180€, so I would prefer bigger options and buy a smaller one in the future for travelling, etc.
Options I considered:
Kindle Basic
Only 6".
Also, no warm light, even during the day at home, I always found it more pleasant.
Recessed screen, yes!!!
However, I do have Kindle Store, and sending ePubs wireless it's also a task of seconds.
Kindle Paperwhite
6.8", yesssss
Flush screen. I've never saw one, but from what I read it introduces some glare and removes that "feel" of a book, which are two things very important to me
.. but it has warmlight
However, I do have Kindle Store, and sending ePubs wireless it's also a task of seconds.
Kobo Clara BW
Back to 6" which is a bummer. But recessed screen.
More recent technology of screen, 1300 CARTA, so sharper and better blacks than the Kindles
Warm color though
No ads and cluttered home page with nonsense
Supposedly it's less responsive than the Kindle Basic
Kobo Store is supposedly limited when comparing with Kindle Store
No wireless sending the ePubs in a convenient way
Kobo Libra Color
I don't need the added value of the buttons at all, nor the colour capabilities, so it's too expensive.
Also, I read that the coloured versions, are not as good with B&W (when compared to the exclusive BW ones).
As an additional note I really don't care about waterproofing, wireless charging, or similar fancy functionality.
What would you do in my position? I suppose I'm heading to the Kobo Clara BW but I really don't know, I've never held one or the Paperwhite.
