I am currently 15 and thinking about my future, I have always loved studying infectious diseases and their symptoms, I just find the whole subject very interesting. I am getting good grades and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for specific classes to take, the best schools and any ways that I could work on my portfolio for the future at my age. Also if there are any suggestions for books to read because I’m going to be very bored this summer.
I don't work in the field but these books were super interesting and informative:
Beating Back the Devil: On the Front Lines with the Disease Detectives of the Epidemic Intelligence Service by Maryn McKenna
No Time to Lose: A Life in Pursuit of Deadly Viruses by Peter Piot
Joycelyn Elders, M.D.: From Sharecropper's Daughter to Surgeon General of the United States of America by Joycelyn Elders
The Elders autobiography is inspiring and details her career trajectory into public health.
Best of luck on your endeavors! 😊
