I’ve been working at a consulting company for over a year now and have been pigeon holed into doing lead and asbestos work. This type of work was one bullet point of the job description, but now makes up my work schedule for the foreseeable future. Does anyone have any experience transitioning out of this area and into another? Previously I got to work on storm water management plans, landfill gas sampling, landfill seep inspections, spill prevention control and countermeasure plans, and ESA's but that was before a few people left my company and I got stuck doing the lead and asbestos work. I'm worried I don't have enough experience to get out of the HAZMAT inspection area of environmental science and wanted to see if/how its possible.
I was also thinking of getting my Environmental EIT (my undergrad program was ABET accredited) or taking a GIS certificate program to try and get out of this area of work. Both are pretty expensive and time consuming but seem to be worth the effort in the end.
Any advice will will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
