A frequent comment I always am surprised to hear- (this comes from strangers, coworkers, friends, my mom) is that people often think I’m not listening as well as I am, and are surprised when I say an empathetic and thoughtful response back. People say they can tell I’m really listening and thinking about what they say. I’m often called a very genuine person.

Can’t tell you how many times various people have commented that.

I listen with great intent to understand.

Most of my childhood I felt very alone and now as I’m older (24) and a natural leader in most groups I really try to listen and understand every individual that I encounter.

I’m surprised when I receive this comment because I can’t believe how other people listen to other people half heartedly. Like I genuinely think that’s so odd. Idk.
