Capturing Quarg ships.
Post Body

This should work with really good RNG in an earlier build(less crew) I got the Quarg ship down to 1 person left.

Ship Bactrian

"Against All Odds"

Outfits

X1700 Ion Thruster

Afterburner

Hyperdrive

Impala Plasma Steering

Dwarf Core

26 Mass Expansions

50 Bunk Rooms

1000 Nerve Gas

1000 Laser Rifle

1000 Fragmentation Grenades

445 crew

Escorts 60 Firebirds

Go to Enif or one of the other Quarg planets. The systems adjacent do get Quarg in much much smaller numbers the spawn rate is too low to get very much done.

Phase 1: Disabling

There are 3 states of movement the Quarg ships can be in

  1. Going to the planet: the appear via jump drive and land on the planet.

  2. Leaving the planet: pop out of the planet and then jump out of system.

  3. Just passing through: jumps into system then jumps out of system.

1 and 2 are what you want as soon as you disable a ship board it do not be picky which type, other than aesthetics they are extremely similar. Though the Skylarks should be much easier to capture.

With 3 your Firebirds can get the system angry with you which boosts spawn rate, but personally I have never got these ships below 1/2 shields.

Press "N" to cycle between in system ships, press "F" to sick your escorts on them.

A lot of times your ships will not even agro the Quarg system, when this happens they stop thrusting and float out in a ring.

This is a problem because it drastically increases the chances a Quarg ship will lock on to you and murder you pretty much instantly. Fix it by pressing "G" two times to get them to center on you again but still let them fly off to attack aggressive ships.

Phase 2: Boarding

Depending RNG you may or may not make it to this stage, there are a lot of ways Phase 1 can go wrong. Your ships being destroyed on top of the the ship you want to board, getting destroyed by a ship that jumps into system, and so on.

Use afterburners to get to the disabled ship it takes a little practice to get this to work right because the pathing algorithm can not account for constant use of afterburners. My best advice is to try to only use afterburners when your ship would automatically be firing engines to get to the disabled ship.

Now that you have boarded them another make or break point comes up: how much crew they have.

Quarg ships have between 122-210(Skylark=bigger ship) and 162-185(Wardragon=smaller ship) personally I have never got a ship with much over >170 crew below 15 people left so I would only go for ships below that point. The other difference between the Skylark and the Wardragon is the Skylark only has 120 Intrusion countermeasures instead of the 160 that the wardragon has.

If they have too much crew, disengage and hope your escort swarm disables another ship.

Phase 3: Get the Hell Out of System

I have yet to get to this part in a non-modified save file, but I think it is pretty self explanatory. This is why I think Enif(one with the Ringworld) is the best system to try this in because it is adjacent to a non-Quarg system.

If you all can think of any improvements on my methodology or build please, I love criticism.
