PSA For Those Using Wood Filament
Post Body

Hi all, I'm fairly new at 3D printing, and have gone at it in a very trial-and-error method. I figure at the very least I (and hopefully others) can learn from errors I make. Today I am attempting for the 3rd time to use wood filament (Hatchbox) to make a birdhouse for my dad. Thingiverse link. I did some reading on here and some advice worked for me, some didn't. What I can say with certainty is that with longer (10 hour) prints, it is absolutely necessary to check your filament feeder gear. I was fortunate enough to check my print just as the feeder stopped effectively "grabbing" the filament. Paused the print and found that the gear teeth were essentially ineffective (see photo). I assume that because the wood PLA has a bit more give to it than regular PLA, as well as having the wood particles. After a quick clean it was back to working beautifully. Hope this was helpful in preventing future disaster.

TLDR: Long prints with wood filament gunk up gears, clean them as needed.
