Hey, /r/ems. Like I said, I am an EMT-B student in NY. I originally decided to take the class to help gain the "real world" experience needed to get into a good Clinical Psychology PhD program. I am currently working in a very good psychiatric research lab. However, the lab is not fulfilling anything I want in life except for money (it pays well and I need to pay student loans). I love everything about EMS and I really see myself doing well in it. Academically the course is not an issue and the test should be a breeze.
What I need advice on is whether or not I should take the paramedic program here and kind of ditch the plans I have now (or at least put them on hold). I cant keep my current job AND take the paramedic course. Will I be able to support myself? Are there jobs available? Im not looking to be rich, I just want to pay the bills and maybe have some savings. I'm nervous and excited at the same time about this. Please help. Thanks.
