So... I work for a certain three letter company in an operation that is currently on a 24/48 schedule. We have been pushing for years now to go to a 48/96 and we finally got our Operations Director to agree to it. He initially said okay but it has to be unanimous amongst the crews, which it is. Somewhat recently he turned around and added stipulations and things he would be changing and enforcing to "make risk and safety happy".
The changes include offsetting the EMT and Medic schedules, so you work with a different partner for each half of your shift, and a change in the posting plan that will take the busiest truck in the system and turn it into the truck that's posts the most at night. And by busiest truck in the system we average 6 calls a 24 and the next busiest averages 3.
In conclusion I have my suspicions that this is being done intentionally to eliminate the unanimous vote and thus keep things the way they are.
