In the Earldom of Ormond Thomas Butler has invested ƒ550 for a personal household guard made up of local loyal Gaelic Gallowglass. The guard would number at fifty Gallowglass and would be a standing household guard to help defend the Earl as well as his family, just in case of any danger that could befall them. The Gallowglass would be led by a highly trained local warrior named Colla Ó Duirnín who had previously served in the Ormond levy. The household guard would be equipped with the most modern weapons that oculd be affored in Ormond, primarily claymores, sparth axes, and throwing darts. They'd also be equipped with a mail shirt over a padded jacket and an iron helmet. The Gallowglass household guard would be named the "Claideamh" aka, the Sword. These force would not fight in war but would be exclusively used for household defence and defending the family of the Earl including foreign missions and diplomatic ventures. The Claideamh will be proficient one-on-one fighters in the classic Irish tradition of Champion Warfare, a tradition that would not last long under the modernisation methods of the Butler Earls.
