[EVENT] Nóvo SerenΔ±Μ€sima Project #4: The Fiume di Soldi Initiative
Author Summary

Post Body

After having essentially done nothing but write letters to hundreds of important Venetians concerning the ongoing infrastructure overhauls for the last six months, the official Scribe of the Republic of Venice quit his job unexpectedly. This has lead to much debate in the Senate on the process of hiring a replacement. Unfortunately, letters still needed to be written, and so it was that the task of explaining the Fiume di Soldi Initiative was left to... an unpaid intern.

Hello Venice People!

BOATS!

We build them!

We build them for trade!

But trade and boats, they need docks! Docks in harbors! Harbors in CITIES!

Money we will spend... spend on these HARBORS! We make harbors better! Better harbors for better trade for better trade people for better VENETIANS!

Many city will be build upon, including list below!

Carrara!

Ravenna!

Corfu!

Kotor!

Chania!

Naxos!

Larnaca!

And of cource... VENEZIA!

Lots of money spend we will, money of five two seven six eight four! In four years!

Want to help you with money spend, we do, and we think WILL!

Construction will be occurring in the following 8 cities:

  • Carrara

    • A brand new harbor was built here during the Italian Wars, but that was in a capacity for military vessels. We will be bolstering its ability for trade purposes, including expanding the harbor, building better counting-houses and warehouses, and any other infrastructure needed.
  • Ravenna

    • Already a major trading hub, improvements in Ravenna will focus on repairing and refurbishing the harbor itself, dredging the water of the harbor, modernizing the counting-houses, and subsidizing the purchase of new merchant vessels.
  • Corfu

    • With trade between Venice and the Ottomans growing after our recent trade agreements, Cofru will become a major harbor for trade between the two. The harbor itself should be well expanded, as well as warehouses and countinghouses.
  • Kotor

    • Similar to Corfu, Kotor serves as a clear spot to become a focal point for Venetian-Ottoman trade. Harbors and counting-houses should be expanded, the harbor should be dredged, and the Fortifications of Kotor should be repaired and bolstered.
  • Chania

    • Thanks to both trade agreements with the Ottomans and the Mamluks, and guarantees against raiding by the Barbarossa pirates, trade in the Aegean looks to be about to skyrocket. As such, it is necesary to expand what will become one of the Republic's largest ports in the Aegean. Massive investment in an arsenal will be forthcoming in the next few months, but for now we will be investing to improve the harbor itself, counting-houses, warehouses, and other necesary infrastructure for an improved trade presence.
  • Naxos

    • As with Chania, Naxos will be an important focal point for trade in the Aegean. Here the harbor should be expanded and dredged, new counting-houses should be established, and warehouses should be built.
  • Larnaca

    • Thanks to a trade agreement with the Mamluks that will begin a government-enforced Venetian monopoly over the Mamluk spice trade and an expanded Venetian district within Alexandria, trade with the Mamulks will be a profitable area for Venetian merchants. As such, the harbor of Larnaca needs to be expanded to account for the increased number of vessels passing through the area, and counting-houses and warehouses should be expanded.
  • Venice

    • Venice may be the greatest city on Earth, and the largest port in Europe, but that certainly does not mean that mroe investment will not benefit the great city. The focus here should be on the repain and maintinence of existing harbor structures, dredging the harbor to clear any silt buildup, city waste, or ship debris, and an upgrade to the counting-houses and banks in the area.

The total cost of this initiative is expected to be 527,684 florins, and will take about four years.

  • 167,684 florins will be paid immediately, with the remaining 360,000 being paid over the next four years (15,000 per tick)
