Vladislaus II Jagielloin, King of Hungary, Bohemia, and Croatia, looked ahead at his beautiful new bride and smiled. Well mannered, well educated, and certainly able to bear him a new heir, she was everything he had hoped for. It was the happiest he had been in a long time.

"I do."

As the couple finished their vows and finally kissed, the room burst into applause. Representatives and leaders from across the continent were in attendance at what was planned to be one of the biggest festivities in years. Vladislaus and Anne turned to their guests and waved, before Vlad walked forward to address the crowd:

"Thank you all so much for coming. In the room behind you we have summoned the finest food, drink, and chefs from across Europe for your pleasure. In two hours will be the commencement of events, games, and other contests, where you will all be able to compete for prizes and fame. Until then, feel free to mingle with the other guests and generally have a good time. I will be joining you shortly, but first I have a bit of business to finish up. Enjoy!"

And with a final wave Vladislaus and his new wife departed for their chambers, leaving George Szatmári as the master of ceremonies, directing guests into the next room to continue the celebration. Cardinal Tamás Bakócz was among the guests, mingling and enjoying himself.

"Attention please!" Szatmári announced as the guests entered the dining hall, "Would anyone interested in entering the contests later this evening please approach me to submit your name or the name of your competitor so that I might prepare the brackets. The events will be as follows:

• The Feats of Strength - Weightlifting, log hurling, and cart pushing. The competitor must complete each of the three events, the competitor who scores the most points overall is declared the winner. The prize for this event is a golden festivus pole a golden statue of a giant hoisting a boulder.

• The Feats of Skill - fencing, jousting, and wrestling. The competitor must complete each of the three events, the competitor who scores the most points overall is declared the winner. The prize for this event is a golden shield embedded with precious gems.

• The Feats of Speed - Horse racing, foot racing, and swim racing. The competitor must complete each of the three events, the competitor who scores the most points overall is declared the winner. The prize for this event is a black stallion from the royal stables, complete with a gold-rimmed saddle.

• The Game of Riddles. This final event of the evening will be hosted by Vladislaus himself, with the winner receiving 5000 florins from his personal treasury.
