The forces of Navarre arrive in Zaragoza without incident and are allowed to set up their siege equipment. Inside the city, the small local garrison of only 20 swordsmen and 50 pikemen go about conscripting the local populace to mount a defence. They manage to conscript 726 militia and 62 light ranged infantry yet they have almost no training whatsoever and do not want to see their city destroyed. The Navarrese bombardment goes splendidly and they quickly achieve 4 breaches in the walls of Zaragoza. The Navarrese advance in tercio formation under the protective shelling of the cannons. Unfortunately, a cannon fires short and hits a tercio formation while marching [2/20]. This kills 178 pikemen, 69 musketmen and 29 swordsmen. This is nothing compared to the casualties in Zaragoza. The effectiveness of the bombardment [17/20] kills 370 militia and 48 light ranged infantry. The soldiers do not even wait for a charge and surrender the city. [4/20]
