The great Turkish sultan, Bayezid II, faces the arduous task of bringing the Roman rebellion to heel. Fifty-five years after his forebear, Mehmed II, took the great city of Konstantiniyye, the Christian people of Rome have risen in revolt against his rule, egged on by the independent people of Mani and their faraway cousins in Monferrat.
Bayezid also faces the task of securing the Aegean, around which many of his core territories are located, and he must expand the borders of his flourishing empire, in order to do justice to the great house of Osman.
