Hey there everyone! Since I have been seeing one of my favorite areas in the world, Sengoku Japan, has been looked over a bit, I thought I would make this. This is a list of some of the "big name" Daimyo, or feudal lords about similar to a European Duke, to give an idea of who all is out there.
Uesugi Clan: The Uesugi clan is the lavender country controlling three provinces in central Japan. The Uesugi clan is currently split into two competing branches the less populous Yamanaouichi and the more populous Ogigayatsu. Both clans tend to clash against each other, however will stand united against a common threat. The Uesugi clan has considerable power, able to drive out a Shogunate official and demand his replacement, no small feat.
Difficulty: Medium, the Uesugi may be divided for now, but should they be united they will become one of the major players in Northern Japan.
Ouchi Clan: The Ouchi clan is the pale purple on the Southern Edge of the main Japanese Island. This clan is currently fighting in a conflict called the Onin War to place the Shoguns brother as his preferred heir, instead of the Shoguns son. Due to the clans placement at the southern edge of the island chain, they are able to do much foreign trade with Korea and Ming, allowing them to flourish through their trade, however the Onin War might prove to be a drain on such resources.
Difficulty: Medium-Hard, the Ouchi can gain a large amount of wealth due to foreign trade, but face danger due to their current conflict with the Hosokawa clan and the possibility of the war spilling into Ouchi land.
Yamana Clan: The Yamana clan are the two deep purple provinces on the main Japanese Island. The Yamana clan are currently the greatest supporters of the Shoguns brother as the true heir to the Shogun. Though the primary conflict is to who will become the next Shogun, the underlying conflict is between the Yamana head, Yamana Sozen and his son in law Hosokawa Katsumoto who is more wealthy than Sozen, and both seek to be the preferred vassal of the Shogun.
Difficulty: Hard, the Yamana clan is currently labeled as rebels by the Shogun, though no true action other than that has been laid against them. Added on that Sozen is currently weary of this bloody war between himself and his son in law.
Shiba Clan The Shiba Clan is the three sky blue provinces scattered around the main Japanese Island. The Shiba clan is currently at a cross roads. The clan is currently fighting amongst themselves, attempting to find a new head of the clan, with there being two main factions, who have also taken opposing sides in the Onin War. The clan is also having a difficult time transitioning to this new more war like period.
Difficulty: Very Hard, the Shiba clan historically failed at transitioning to a Sengoku-Daimyo, due to their inability to centralize their leadership, and the usurpation of power by Asakura Toshikage.
Date Clan The Date clan is the deep red province in the north most portion of the main Japanese Island. The Date are so far neutral in this Onin War, due to their geographic distance, and political distance from the Shogun, having supported the Emperor over the Shogun generations ago. The Date have so far secured dominance in the north by securing alliances with the other lords of the north, and themselves as the head.
Difficulty: Medium, the Date have a slightly difficult path due to their holding dominance due to political maneuvering with the other northern lords, and thus have a slightly unstable power base. However, if they keep this base and solidify their holdings, they have one path to move, south, making their path simple.
Takeda Clan The Takeda Clan is the red province in the center of the main Japanese Island. The Takeda clan reside safely in the mountainous Kai province. The Takeda are currently embroiled in a rivalry with their northern neighbors the Uesugi after assisting the Shogun to suppress their revolt. Though safe in their mountain filled domain, they are also unable to expand without fearing reprisal from the Uesugi.
Difficulty: Medium-Hard, though hard to expand, if taking the proper timing into account, and capitalizing on Uesugi attention being elsewhere they can be a power player in their area.
