Anne rose early in the morning to await for the architects that would meet with her on the topic of a renovation of the Château Royal de Blois. The castle of Blois was a magnificent sight to behold but, although she loved it dearly, there were so many parts that needed repair and improvement that she feared that some day it would fall to ruin without someone's doing something about the matter. Thus, she began the project of improving her chateau.
She made known her wishes to the various architects and engineers. Pacello da Mercogliano and Domenico da Cortona were two Italians who both first came to France under Charles VIII, and still remained in service at the court in Blois. They each brought with them their own ideas on what improvements were necessary. Both agreed that there was much work to be done, and both proposed designs to Anne before she was able to choose which one should be used for the renovation of the castle. Anne believed that the chateau at Blois was now too outdated, and required a modern Italian touch to make it beautiful once more.
Redesigning and reconstructing parts of the chateau would sadly disrupt some of court life, but that was a sacrifice that Anne was willing to make. Anne has specifically requested from the designers not only a beautiful Italian-style garden with fountains, but also the construction in the chateau of a large library to satisfy Anne's desire to collect more books.
